Imaginative and captivating. A well written story, I'm glad my friends recommended it to me. I'm very happy knowing that there are more Wolflock adventures to read ๐Ÿ˜Š

I'm a busy working mum and I really enjoy reading, but have little time or energy for the 'big books'. The case of the captains hair is just the right amount of fun, fantasy and mystery all bound in a great little package that is easy to read.
I will definitely give this to my son to read when he gets older. I would have loved this as a kid.

Reviews are one of the best ways to keep the veil thin. The thinner the veil is, the more magic and mystery comes through for us to enjoy. When we get to certain thresholds, the fae bring us a gift. Sometimes they will tell me what the gift is, other times they just tell me the number we need to reach.

Frustrated by limitations placed on his journey on the majestic ship The Silver Hair, amateur sleuth Wolflock dedicates himself to the task of solving the mystery surrounding the captain's absence. He quickly crosses paths with the much more charming Mothy, fellow passenger and Watson stand-in to Wolflock's arrogant deductive skills, and bounces ideas from him to unpack the sequence of events and motives of the others on board. This fun, playful adventure story would be appropriate for ages 10 and above, but I thoroughly enjoyed it too and look forward to the sequel.

Rhiannon D. Elton is so skilled at character-building that you won't be able to stop yourself from relating to a mermaid of a kind you've likely never read about before! Once again subtly addressing the themes that affect many young people, this time Wolflock and Mothy have to undo something they did by accident, while simultaneously determining who is telling the truth and who is lying to them.

Selena Reid - Amazon

Another rousing adventure for Wolflock and Mothy, this time one that is as familiar as it is strange as our young heroes explore the angst and expectation of holidays while trying to solve a mystery at the same time! A little more complex than the last three books, it feels like our daring duo are just hitting their stride now.

How can you not love these books? Even though they are aimed at a much younger audience, I enjoyed every minute of the journey to Mystentine with Wolflock and Mothy, watching them solve mysteries and make friends. I will be honest, there will be times in this book when you want to slap Wolflock, but there will also be times you want to give him a sympathetic hug. It's hard to be a teenager. I've had such a fun time with these books, I recommend them to anyone who wants a little mystery in their lives.

Selena Reid - Amazon

Addressing some darker themes than the other books, this case is intriguing and the biggest mystery for our heroes yet. As always it is handled deftly and sympathetically, and despite the themes, there is still plenty of fun. As always the characters are well-crafted and fascinating and the world vibrant, as I have come to expect of this author.

Fantastically entertaining! I love this world of Pelaia. The story was intriguing, thrilling and had me utterly gripped. With bright energetic characters with defined personalities and flaws this book had me in its grasp from start to finish. The mystery this time was a touch darker than usual and, against the backdrop of beautiful Pelaia, was able to stand out as a truly evil misdeed while also being able to illuminate the its widespread effects. It was great. This book was thoroughly entertaining and I'm off to start the next one!

Amazing start to a captivating mystery. I started reading this series to my nephew. I had met the author at a market stall and purchased most of the series. I was so excited to start! I have loved many Agatha Christie and similar books and when Rhi described this as Sherlock Holmes from middle earth, I couldnโ€™t say no! The first book is quite short and I read it in a day but definitely worth it to progress with the mystery. Characters are great and their development is well written. Overall great book.

Rhiannon D Elton's Case of the Captain's Hair - is a YA fantasy mystery story that debut's Wolflock as a deductive detective. Wolflock is escaping his family (in particular his father) to attend the Mystentine University which involves a long voyage but his trip is threatened by the mysterious absence of the Captain. Wolflock sets about solving the mystery through observation and deduction, making friends along the way, including a fellow prospective student. This novella-sized first book was a fun romp, with quirky characters and intriguing clues.

Loved this book from start to finish, couldn't put it down! Highly recommend!!

"It was much more fun to get into trouble with someone else" 7.42

"Lockie" (Wolflock) 15 somehow lets down his dad. I really was not sure how. Lockie has wanted school away for years, but now his teased, loved sis Myna 13 smooths his way past (consistent typo for passed) their stern dad, the cost by her "investments". Author Elton cleverly makes silvery ship's captain the first case.

Elton has a knack for entertaining repartรฉe, endearing characters, breathtaking vistas, believable settings. The lonely teen gets his first friend, cheery Mothy. But despite laughing admiration for "my prince", Sherlockian arrogance alienates passengers. Sherlock is our original expert to observe and deduct. Hooray for boy version in Elton's steampunk world.

Judy Wollin - Goodreads

A rich boy is thrilled to be escaping from his palace lifestyle. The boat trip to university and freedom isn't the luxurious ride he was expecting. There seems to be a mystery, the captain is missing and the crew are all stressed. Wolflock decides to investigate. what does he find?
Recommended for readers aged ten years and older.

Claire Fitzpatrick - Amazon

The Case of the Haematophagous Equine' by Rhiannon Elton is a fast-paced and fun mystery story packed full of intrigue, and most importantly, humour. As an introduction to the world of Mysentine, I loved the world-building and fantastic characters. Wolflock is hilarious, making me chuckle throughout the story. Eg,

"Dr Quan has shown himelf to have enough foresight to not climb a hill before he has eaten."

"He wears an apron he stole from me last year."

"What is this place?"
"It's called a library, boys."

I definitely recommend for everyone who likes Sherlock Holmes, David Eddings, Alan Dean Foster, and adventure stories with mystery and a lot of fun.

A formerly crystal clear bay suddenly filled with muck? Sound familiar? Sure does - we see it in the news every day! But rarely does anyone have a chance to have a chance to directly correct the issue and restore the natural habitat to its former glory. A very satisfying read, this one.

Selena Reid - Amazon

Thus far, The Wolflock Cases have addressed very human situations, misunderstandings, mistreatment and criminal undertakings with compassion and style. This book steps it up a notch with Wolflock's first murder case and for once, the characters react the way teenage boys should: they're both horrified and fascinated. Handled with compassion and care, this is a book that edges towards thriller but still in a way that is accessible for young people.

Selena Reid - Amazon

Gearing up a notch from the first two books, this book further develops the vivid story of Wolflock and Mothy on their journey to Mystentine, delving into the mythology and science of this rich world. Carefully crafted mystery, fascinating characters and fun adventures will keep you coming back.

A delightful return to this light-hearted world. Another playful, cheeky and easy read from Rhiannon D. Elton. Anyone who enjoyed the first book will be delighted to return to this lighthearted world. Wolflock, an obnoxious genius in the spirit of Sherlock Holmes, returns in his second book, still travelling north on the ship 'The Silver Hair' to begin university with his new friend Mothy. After inadvertently offending his fellow passengers with his tactless observations, Wolflock determines that there may be more to his friend than what meets his normally keen eye. Thus begins his latest investigation, and The Case of Mothy is afoot. He might just learn a thing or two about kindness and friendship along the way.

Mothy is without a doubt my favourite thing about this series, and I love that he got his very own story. Fun, compassionate, easygoing and genuine, he's the perfect best friend, almost too good for the emotionally immature Wolflock. Mothy's humility and social intelligence lends the aspiring teen detective much of his likeability, which is part of what makes this dynamic so satisfying. I look forward to seeing where 'The Silver Hair' takes them next.

It was an easy read to fall into. RDE writes in a way I can immediately set the scene and imagine what's going on.
Wolflock was intelligent, persnickety and just this side of unlikeable. I can't wait for more of his cases.

The first book in the series really sets the tone. This book definitely stands alone, as do all in the series, but the characters really come to life as the series progresses. This is an amazing series and should definitely be on the list for all young readers.

I acquired this book because I love to support indie authors and was delightfully surprised by it. I finished it in a day just because it was so charming I couldn't put it down. Full of fun and mystery, with well-thought-out characters and vivid locations, this is a wonderful start to a fantasy/mystery series that only got better from here.

Delicious characters, deft dialogue and a delightfully clever story. It was such a joy to read. Equally captivating is the author's personal tale of her origins as a writer. Rhiannon's heart and soul are in this world and it's a privilege to take a walk with her behind the veil.

Thoroughly enjoyed this one, and am looking forward to volume two! I can't wait to see what happens next - Wolflock is so engaging, like a young Sherlock!

A really neat read, easy to fall into and something I couldn't put down until the mystery was solved! 10/10 would read again and recommend to others!

I really enjoyed 'The Case of the Captains Hair" which I went home to kindle to read just after meeting Rhiannon late last year. It's captivating and I didn't figure it out till everything was revealed by Rhiannon at the appropriate time. You might be smarter than me but I'm guessing you'll be as captivated and surprised as I was.
